Pathways to Careers Construction Program Celebrates Graduates' Success

On March 22, we celebrated the accomplishments of six remarkable students who have successfully graduated from our Pathways to Careers Construction program. A collaborative initiative with The AKA Team, a minority female-owned construction company in Cleveland, this program is designed to equip young adults with the knowledge and skills necessary for a career in the construction industry.

Delivering a mix of classroom instruction and invaluable, hands-on field training, our Pathways to Careers Construction program covers a wide range of topics such as safety procedures, construction math, blueprint reading, carpentry, electrical work, plumbing and welding. It is accredited by the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER), a not-for-profit education foundation that develops standardized construction and maintenance curricula with portable credentials.

Upon completion of the 12-week program, students earn their OSHA-10, Forklift (Class 1,4,5) and NCCER certifications—all of which enhance employability and career advancement opportunities within the construction field. Widely recognized by employers across the United States, these certifications offer a standardized measure of competency in various construction trades.

All graduates of the program have shown promising outcomes. One has expressed interest in the Cleveland Builds program, indicating a commitment to community development. Two are currently interviewing with CleveLawn and GCS’s partner DC Heating & Cooling, reflecting active pursuits of employment. Moreover, two other individuals are deemed employment-ready, demonstrating that they possess the necessary skills for immediate job placement. Notably, one graduate has already secured a position with CleveLawn—marking a successful outcome in the job search process.

In addition, it was also announced at the graduation ceremony that these young adults will have the opportunity to join Cleveland’s esteemed Pipefitters Local #120 apprenticeship program.

It is truly inspiring to witness these graduates embark on their professional journeys, equipped with the knowledge and skills gained through our Pathways to Careers Construction program. Partnerships with industry leaders like The AKA Team play a pivotal role in powering initiatives like ours—ensuring that we can offer top-notch training and support for our youth as they enter the workforce.

Congratulations to all of our 2024 construction graduates!
