Practical Engineering Experience: Devan’s internship at W.S.Tyler

Published on February 17, 2023

Devan completed the fall 2023 cohort of the Y.O.U. Internship program at W.S.Tyler. His interests in aviation applications and engineering made for a great fit for the woven wire mesh manufacturer . Woven wire mesh can be found in batteries, hearing aids, microphones, and even aviation applications.

Devan shared, “I found out about W.S. Tyler, through the Y.O.U. Internship program. I did some preliminary research and thought there are a lot of products and applications look pretty interesting. I'm interested in aviation applications and engineering. I think these institutions in general, give us a good chance to reach kids when they maybe don't know what opportunities are out there. I think it's very important to give give kids a foundation of career choices and opportunities so that they have a better chance on landing someplace where you're happy.”

During his internship, Devan did some engineering work, he got exposed to CAD modeling. He even built some prototype parts for a helicopter filter. His work will be used to order components for future prototypes.

He was most impressed by how he got a taste of every department at W.S. Tyler through his internship experience. Now he has more direction for how he wants to navigate the business world in the future.
