Allana signs on to a bright future with Cleveland State University

Published on November 18, 2022

Remember Allana? She helped us share our call for summer jobs applicants in early spring 2022!

We caught up with Allana to congratulate her on her most recent success: signing on with Cleveland State University as the newest member of their volleyball team for fall 2023. Allana was offered a full ride to CSU. Allana expressed, “It’s still all so surreal. Oh my gosh, I won’t have to pay for everything.” She is excited to be able to focus on her studies and athletics but is so appreciative about how her summer jobs with Y.O.U. got her where she is today.

“I like being busy!” Allana says. “I feel like I always need to be doing something. I think working the summer jobs helped me prepare for CSU too. I would go from work to volleyball to school. Already having so much on my plate has prepared me for my next step. I attribute it to my time management. I’ve had an endless amount of support from family, Y.O.U., and Sharon Bell. They always made sure I was comfortable. Having these people in my life has helped a lot.”

Allana had a summer job with Y.O.U. for three years. She worked at the Shaker Heights Youth Center and at The Woodlands of Shaker Heights. She also attributes her success to the support of one of the Y.O.U.’s community partners, Shaker MyCom.

At CSU, Allana is looking forward to studying communication sciences and disorders. She wants to better understand how to support those with speech impediments and hearing impairment. After getting her undergraduate degree, she will pursue speech and language pathology in graduate school to pursue a career in the same field.
